The Edo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has issued a statement addressing reports that the state governor, Godwin Obaseki was set to join the party after he was disqualified by the ruling All progressives Congress, APC.
It will be recalled that on Friday, Obaseki made headlines after his party disqualified him from contesting the gubernatorial primaries scheduled to hold on June 22.
Speaking on the development, the new PDP Chairman in Edo State, Tony Aziegbemi told newsmen in Abuja that people have been calling on behalf of the Governor, but that he has to go through the ward level to get registered.
He said if the Governor joins the PDP, it is only the National Working Committee of the Party that can grant him a waiver to participate in the primary election because the process had been concluded.
He added that Obaseki will still have to contest with three other aspirants, except the aspirants agreed to step down for him. He said he sees Obaseki as a Governor with the capacity to develop Edo state, but he is being distracted by his own party men.
As at the time of filing this report, Obaseki is still a member of the APC.
