N2.4 billion fraud: Former NEXIM Bank MD Orya bags 490 years’ jail term

A former Managing Director of the Nigerian Import Export Bank (NEXIM), Robert Orya has been sentenced to 490 years’ jail term.

Orya was convicted by a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on Thursday, January 5, following charges levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Orya who served as NEXIM boss between 2011 and 2016 was prosecuted by EFCC’s Samuel Ugwuegbulam over fraud allegations of N2.4 billion.

Delivering his judgement, Justice F.E. Messiri convicted the former NEXIM Bank MD and sentenced him to ten years imprisonment on each of the 49 count charges levelled against him.

The judge also ruled that the sentences will run concurrently.
