Abia ADC Candidate Challenges Otti to Show One Project in Ohafia

The Abia State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kalu Kalu, has challenged Governor Alex Otti to identify a single project executed by his administration in Ohafia Local Government Area.

Kalu, who is from Ohafia, made the challenge while speaking on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Friday.

He also said he would withdraw from the 2027 governorship race if Otti or his representatives could point to one state government project in the local government.

The ADC candidate based his challenge on his claim that Ohafia had received more than N16 billion in allocations over the past three and a half years without corresponding visible projects from the state government.

“I am from Ohafia LG of Abia State, and I’m placing it on record here that my local government has received over N16 billion for the past three and a half years,” he said.

Kalu asked the television station to visit Ohafia and independently examine the projects being credited to the Otti administration.

“Let Alex Otti and his handlers show your station any project that his government has done for the people of Ohafia Local Government. Not one,” Agu said.

He further tied the challenge to his political ambition, saying he would be willing to give up his bid for the governorship if even one project could be identified.

“If your station will go to Ohafia Local Government and show one single project Alex Otti has done for the people of Ohafia Local Government, I will drop my gubernatorial ambition,” he said.

The statement comes as political activities intensify in Abia ahead of the 2027 governorship election. Kalu is seeking to unseat Otti, who is expected to pursue another term in office.

The ADC candidate also raised concerns about electricity in Ohafia.

According to him, residents of the area have endured a prolonged lack of public power supply.

“Close to 10 years running, my local government or Ohafia Local Government has not seen any electricity anywhere,” he added.

However, records from the Abia State Government show that its administration has undertaken and commissioned infrastructure in parts of the Ohafia area.

In May 2026, Otti commissioned a 22.5-kilometre reconstructed section of the Abiriba-Ohafia Highway.

The state government said the road was renamed Chief Otisi Kalu (Abbot) Road in honour of the late Abiriba community leader.

The commissioning formed part of activities marking Otti’s third year in office.

The state government has also published records of other activities and interventions involving Ohafia Local Government.

These include the Abia TechRise programme, which had participants from the local government receiving training in areas such as artificial intelligence automation, software engineering, machine learning and UI/UX design.

The government has also maintained that its development programme extends across the state.

During his third anniversary activities in May, Otti said his administration had completed 414 road projects covering more than 800 kilometres, while another 82 roads covering over 200 kilometres were nearing completion.

He also listed interventions in healthcare, education, youth empowerment and other sectors.

The existence of these projects does not, however, resolve the specific dispute raised by Kalu over projects executed by the state government within Ohafia Local Government Area.

His challenge was specifically directed at what he described as the absence of a project that could be presented to residents as a direct achievement of the Otti administration in the area.

Kalu also used the interview to outline what he said would be his priorities if elected governor in 2027.

However, Abia state Governor, Otti had earlier revealed his preferred candidate for presidency in next year election.

He focused particularly on young people and the growing desire among Nigerians to leave the country in search of better opportunities.

“Our young people do not have hope again in this country. They all believe that the greener pasture is outside the shores of this country,” he said.

According to him, his administration would seek to change that situation by creating opportunities within Abia State.

He said young people should be able to build their careers and businesses within the state instead of being forced to look elsewhere.

“By the grace of God, on the 29th day of May 2027, I will reveal the thinking, first of all, of the young people in Abia State that they don’t need to leave Abia to go to any place for greener pastures,” he said.
