Nigeria Ranked 36th Most Corrupt Country in the World [FULL LIST]

Transparency International, the global coalition against corruption, has again ranked Nigeria as the 36th most corrupt country in the world.

In the latest report, Nigeria fell from 140th in 2024 to 142nd out of 182 countries in 2025, where 1 represents the cleanest country and 182 the most corrupt.

Despite this drop in ranking, Nigeria retained its position as the 36th most corrupt country, sharing the spot with Cameroon, Guatemala, Guinea, Kyrgyzstan, and Papua New Guinea, all scoring 26 points.

The ranking, released on Transparency International’s website on Tuesday, forms part of the 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index.

Maíra Martini, CEO of Transparency International, explained that the index ranks 182 countries and territories based on perceived public-sector corruption, scored on a scale from 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).

“People are paying the price,” Martini said, “as corruption leads to underfunded hospitals, unbuilt flood defenses, and hinders the hopes of young people.”

She warned that corruption remains a serious threat worldwide, even in established democracies such as the US, UK, and New Zealand, which are experiencing declines in anti-corruption performance.

“Leaders must act to tackle abuses of power and the factors driving this decline, including the roll-back of democratic checks and balances,” she said.
