‘We Will Not Condone Anti-Party Activities’ – Gov Bago Warns ahead of APC Congress

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has issued a strong warning to leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state as preparations begin for the party’s congresses.
The governor said the party would not tolerate any action capable of causing division or disunity among members. He stressed that discipline must guide the entire congress process across the state.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House Minna, Bago announced that state commissioners would head the Congress Committees in all local government areas.
He explained that the decision followed the expiration of the tenure of the state APC executives.
According to him, the commissioners would take responsibility for coordinating activities at the grassroots.
The governor said each commissioner must compile a complete and accurate list of party members in their local government areas. He added that they must work closely with party elders and other key stakeholders to ensure a smooth exercise.
Bago stated that the congress coordination committees must strictly follow agreements reached by leaders at the local government level. He noted that this would help prevent conflict and ensure peaceful congresses across the state.
He cautioned the commissioners against compromising party rules or engaging in favoritism. He warned that anyone found guilty of wrongdoing would face sanctions. He declared that the APC is a disciplined party and “will not condone anti-party activities and gross misconduct from any party member.”
Also speaking at the meeting, the APC Vice Chairman for North Central, Mu’azu Bawa Rijau, said the party had adopted consensus as the method for conducting all congresses.
He disclosed that the decision was reached after the party’s National Executive Committee meeting. He said the consensus approach would apply at ward, local government, state, zonal and national levels.
Bawa urged party members in Niger State to embrace the decision and work together for the success of the congresses.
He further reaffirmed the party’s support for Governor Bago, noting that his administration had recorded visible achievements in different sectors.
