BREAKING: Rivers Assembly Halts Impeachment Proceedings Against Gov Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly has officially dropped the hammer on its plan to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara from office.
This sudden U-turn also extends to the Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, who was facing similar impeachment threats.
The decision was reached during a plenary session in Port Harcourt on Thursday, following a massive intervention by President Bola Tinubu.
The lawmakers moved the motion to “halt the impeachment process” as a gesture of peace and compliance with the resolutions reached during recent high-level meetings in Abuja.
For months, the state has been on the edge of a political precipice, but the intervention of the Presidency appears to have finally forced a retreat.
The House leadership noted that the decision was necessary to prevent further breakdown of law and order in the state.
However, this latest development is the result of a marathon reconciliation process brokered by President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
The rift, which primarily centered on the power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, had paralyzed the legislative arm for some time.
Recall that the political climate in Rivers State reached a boiling point earlier this year when the Assembly served a notice of gross misconduct on the Governor.
In a related development, this truce follows the recent dissolution of the State Executive Council by Governor Fubara, which is seen as part of the broader agreement to accommodate various political interests in a new cabinet.
