‘Wike Has the Right to Campaign for Any Candidate in Any Party’ – APC Spokesperson

The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has cleared the air regarding the political activities of the Minister of the Federal Republic, Nyesom Wike.

He asserted that the former Rivers State Governor possesses the absolute freedom to support any political interest he chooses.

This clarification comes amidst concerns regarding Wike’s cross-party activities and his influential role within the current ruling party.

Speaking during a telephone interview on Channels Television, Morka emphasized that Wike’s actions are protected by the legal frameworks of the country.

He noted that as an individual, the Minister is not restricted from exercising his preference for candidates, regardless of their political platforms.

According to Morka, “Wike has the right to campaign for any candidate in any party.” He maintained that the Minister is first and foremost a primary stakeholder in the Nigerian project with the autonomy to make his own associations.

Expanding on the legal backing for such actions, the APC spokesperson reminded the public that Wike remains a personage entitled to the full perks of his fundamental rights.

Morka stated that “Wike is a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who also has freedom guaranteed by the constitution.”

He further stressed that this constitutional provision allows for a broad range of political expressions and alliances.

Morka reiterated that the Minister is well within his bounds to align with anyone he deems fit, stating that “he has the right to support any candidate he wants.”

This defense from the ruling party’s mouthpiece suggests a level of comfort within the APC regarding Wike’s unique position, despite his formal roots in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
