Nigerians Are Killed Daily by Terrorists While Leaders Plot to Steal 2027 Election — Peter Obi

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has condemned the continued killings by terrorists in Nigeria, accusing political leaders of focusing on power struggles ahead of the 2027 elections instead of addressing the country’s worsening insecurity.
Obi made the remarks on Friday in a post on X while reacting to a recent terrorist attack on Ngoshe community in Borno State, which reportedly targeted a military base and an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp.
The former governor of Anambra State said the attack resulted in the deaths of both civilians and soldiers, while several others remain missing.
According to him, he watched videos of the incident with “deep horror,” describing the tragedy as yet another painful reminder of the hardship and insecurity many Nigerians face daily.
Obi criticised political leaders for allegedly concentrating on political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections while lives continue to be lost to insecurity across the country.
He questioned how long Nigerians would continue to suffer the consequences of poor leadership and mismanagement.
“How long will Nigerians continue to bear the consequences of poor leadership and mismanagement? How many more lives must be lost before decisive action is taken to secure our communities, protect the vulnerable, and dismantle the structures of these insurgents?” he said.
Obi further lamented that despite the daily killings by terrorists, many political leaders appear more concerned about positioning themselves for the next election cycle.
“While Nigerians are slaughtered daily by terrorists, what is more troubling is that amid these daily killings, our political leaders are preoccupied with selfish schemings on how to steal, grab and run away with the next election cycle, leaving the country in insecurity, poverty and underdevelopment,” he added.
