Daniel Bwala Under Fire After ‘Embarrassing’ Al Jazeera Interview with Mehdi Hasan

A presidential aide came under heavy criticism following a recent appearance on Al Jazeera’s “Head to Head” programme, anchored by Mehdi Hasan.

During the interview, the aide repeatedly denied previous critical remarks made against the president prior to taking office, despite Hasan citing the statements along with their dates.

The interview sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians describing it as an embarrassment to the government and the nation.

One user tweeted, “This is what happens when you speak from both sides of your mouth. This is so embarrassing. He shouldn’t have gone for this Head to Head with Mehdi Hasan, or at the very least, allowed him to air the recorded interview.”

Another wrote, “Anyone defending this government should cover themselves in shame after this interview. I feel ashamed and embarrassed for real.”

Some commented on the difficulty of defending the administration in such a forum, noting that the aide appeared too embarrassed to share the interview publicly.

One post remarked, “He had to call Al Jazeera western media. Defending Tinubu is hard.” Another social media user reflected on the clash of approaches, saying, “The interview was a clash of power, culture, and structure.

He came with reckless and broad political talking points, but Hasan demanded precision and evidence.

He should have known he was not going to Channels or Arise TV, but a Western media platform built for accountability, where evasion exposes weakness and foolishness on a global stage.”

Others went further, arguing that the administration should act to avoid further humiliation, with one user stating, “Tinubu must sack him to avoid further embarrassment. This is unbelievable.”

As of the time of this report, the presidency has not commented on the interview or the public reaction it has generated.
