One Month After, Police Yet To Take Proactive Measures Against University Staff Enmeshed In Sex Scandal

One month after a staff of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, was busted for his involvement in a sex scandal with a student, the police is yet to take proactive measures, POLITICS NIGERIA can report.

Monday Omo-Etan, a tutor who teaches Chemistry at the OAU Centre for Distance Learning (CDL) allegedly forced a female student to perform Oral sex after she mistakenly sent her nude pictures to her class WhatsApp page.

The student whose name was withheld to avoid stigmatization meant to send the pictures to her boyfriend.

Following the mistake, the pictures were shared by her colleagues to different Whatsapp groups.

Mr Omo-etan, privileged to have see the nude pictures later summoned the victim and took advantage of her.

He was thereafter, caught on tape demanding sex from the student. She rejected his advances but Mr Omo-etan persisted, forcing her to perform oral sex on him.

On the eve of the day the act occurred, the student called the randy tutor “to express how she felt afterwards” but the he responded saying “she should remain discreet”.

Since then, efforts to reach Mr Omoetan has remained unsuccessful. He has since switched off his known telephone number.

University actions

Following the exposè, the management of OAU issued a statement confirming the incident and later suspended him.

The spokesperson of the institution, Abiodun Olanrewaju in a statement said: “the University has suspended a staffer of the University’s Centre for Distance Learning for sexually molesting a 19-year-old female student.”

The university also handed Mr Omoetan to the police for proper investigation.

Police action, inaction

On February 7, the Osun State state police commissioner, Johnson Kokumo, confirmed Mr Omoetan’s arrest.

He said the alleged tutor is in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) where he is being interrogated for sexually assaulting his student.

“Fresh investigation has commenced on the allegation and the suspect will soon appear in court,” the police boss said.

Meanwhile, one month after, the police failed to arraign the randy tutor.

Sources who are familiar with the matter told POLITICS NIGERIA that Mr Omoetan has been seen on several occasions roaming on the street of Ife.

A close associate of the randy lecturer who did not want his name on print told our correspondent that he was never arraigned.

When contacted on Thursday, Osun Police spokesperson, Folashade Odoro denied knowing about the matter.

“I don’t know about the case anymore”, she said angrily as she cut the phone.
