Dele Momodu Names ADC Joint Ticket That Will Remove Tinubu in 2027

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has said an opposition alliance led by Atiku Abubakar and paired with a southern political figure could unseat Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

Momodu argued that a joint ticket featuring Atiku and a prominent southerner, such as Peter Obi or Rotimi Amaechi, would significantly weaken the ruling party’s chances.

“I am convinced that if we form a partnership with Atiku, possibly with Peter Obi, perhaps with Rotimi Amaechi, or any other credible figure from the South, Tinubu will be finished.

“This would mark the end of Tinubu’s political structure, not necessarily the APC,” Momodu said during an appearance on Sunday Politics on Channels Television.

He maintained that Atiku’s long-standing ambition and political experience position him as a strong contender if he emerges as the opposition’s candidate.

“From my observation, Atiku Abubakar, even among those who once opposed him, is now gaining acceptance, as the enemy of your enemy becomes your friend.

“He has prepared for this moment for years, much like Donald Trump did before his presidency. Critics once said Trump was too old, yet he returned for a second term, which is quite ironic.

“I believe opposition politics is vital; there must be credible challengers. However, Tinubu appears to be positioning himself to run almost unopposed, which does not make sense,” he added.

Asked whether Atiku can defeat Tinubu in 2027, Momodu said the former vice president’s political structure and determination make him a formidable opponent.

He also warned that the growing wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) since Tinubu assumed office poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

Momodu described the trend as “a tragic day for democracy,” cautioning that it could become dangerous if the PDP is reduced to only a handful of governors.

Atiku, Obi and Amaechi, who contested under different parties in the 2023 elections, are now aligning their efforts to challenge the ruling APC in the 2027 general election.
