UK State Visit: First Lady Remi Tinubu to Preach at Lambeth Palace, Meet Church Leaders

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, is scheduled to preach at Lambeth Palace, the official residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury, on Thursday, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu begins a historic state visit to the United Kingdom.

The President and the First Lady arrived in London on Tuesday via Stansted Airport. As part of her engagements, Oluremi Tinubu is also expected to meet with representatives of the Church of England on the same day as her scheduled preaching.

According to the official programme, President Tinubu and his wife will meet King Charles III on Wednesday. They are also billed to meet the heir to the throne, Prince William, and his wife, Catherine Princess of Wales, before proceeding to Windsor.

King Charles III is expected to later host the Nigerian president at Windsor Castle, where a state banquet will be held in his honour.

The visit marks Nigeria’s first state visit to the United Kingdom in nearly four decades and comes amid strengthening diplomatic relations between both countries.

In November 2024, Nigeria and the UK signed a strategic partnership agreement aimed at boosting cooperation in trade, security and migration.

Discussions during the visit are expected to focus on British-supported port development projects in Nigeria, as well as bilateral trade, which reached £8.1 billion (about $11 billion) in the year to September 2025, reflecting an 11.4 per cent increase year-on-year.
