The Presidential Election Petitions Court, through its Chairman, Justice Haruna Tsammani, has declared that the members of the panel are firmly dedicated to making their decisions solely based on the law in the ongoing determination of petitions within the court.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that during a hearing on Wednesday, Justice Tsammani addressed the petition brought forward by the Allied People’s Movement (APM), which alleges the double nomination of Vice President Kashim Shettima.
APM’s counsel, A.G. Idiagbonya, claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declined to provide certain requested documents.
However, INEC’s counsel, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), informed the court that the subpoena from APM had only been served on the commission on June 19, 2023, despite the petition being filed on March 30.
Pinheiro further stated that INEC always seems to be the target of unwarranted criticism and blame.
Responding, Justice Tsammani addressed the issue, stating, “Some individuals have written alleging that we are siding with INEC. Anyone can write whatever they please, but we will determine these petitions in strict accordance with the law and our own conscience.”
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and the Allied People’s Movement (APM) are all challenging the victory of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the Presidential election held on February 25.
