JUST IN: Former Kano APC Governorship Candidate Gawuna Dumps Party

Former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has officially dumped the ruling party.
Gawuna, who flew the APC flag in the 2023 governorship election, announced his resignation in a letter dated March 29, 2026.
The letter was addressed to the party chairman in Gawuna Ward, located in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
In the letter, the former Deputy Governor made it clear that his decision was personal and taken after careful consideration.
“I hereby formally resign my membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective March 29, 2026,” the letter read in part.
He also expressed gratitude to the party for the platform and opportunities he enjoyed during his time as a member. Gawuna, however, did not give details about his next political destination, leaving room for speculation about his future moves.
His exit comes at a time when political activities in Kano are beginning to gather momentum ahead of next year’s elections.
Shortly after announcing his resignation, Gawuna paid a visit to former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, at his residence on Miller Road in Kano. The meeting has since stirred reactions across political circles.
Kwankwaso confirmed the visit in a post shared on 𝕏, where he hinted at possible political developments.
“Pleased to receive His Excellency Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, former Deputy Governor of Kano State, at my residence in Kano.
“Looking forward to what lies ahead,” he wrote.
Although details of their discussion were not made public, the meeting is widely seen as part of broader consultations that could shape the political direction of Kano State in the coming months.
Gawuna served as Deputy Governor under former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and remained a prominent figure within the APC until his resignation.
His departure is expected to have ripple effects within the party’s structure in Kano, especially in Nasarawa Local Government Area where he holds significant influence.
