2027: “ADC May Not Produce INEC-Recognised Candidate” — APC Chieftain

A former Minister of Aviation and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Femi Fani-Kayode, has raised doubts over the ability of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to present a presidential candidate recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC stalwart made the remarks in a post shared on his X handle on Wednesday. He took a swipe at the opposition party, pointing to what he described as deep internal divisions threatening its political future.
“They can blow as much hot air, enlist as many big names, engage in as many photo ops, appear on all the television stations for their shallow and meaningless interviews and peddle as much fake news as they like,” he wrote.
Fani-Kayode argued that beyond public appearances and media engagements, the ADC is battling serious internal crises.
According to him, the situation may weaken its chances of participating effectively in the next presidential race.
“But judging from their internal wranglings and warring factions it is getting clearer by the day that the ADC may not even be in a position to field an INEC-recognised presidential candidate in the next election,” he added.
He warned that politicians considering alliances with the ADC should think carefully before making such a move. He described any potential partnership with the party as a risky political decision that may not yield results.
“Supporting or joining ADC may ultimately end up being an exercise in futility for those that insist on treading that thorny path,” he said.
Despite his criticism, the former minister advised the opposition party to resolve its lingering disputes. He stressed the need for unity within the party, noting that internal cohesion is key to presenting a valid candidate.
“I appeal to them to get their house in order, bury their differences and stop taking each other to court so that they can produce a legitimate candidate that is recognised by INEC who we can have the opportunity to beat the hell and nonsense out of in the 2027 presidential election,” he stated.
Fani-Kayode also expressed strong confidence in the chances of the ruling APC in the next election cycle. He predicted that the party would secure a convincing victory over its rivals.
“Winning will not be as much fun unless we give them a good hiding in the field of battle. Whichever way they should prepare for a mighty fall and the greatest humiliation in the history of Nigerian politics,” he said.
