2027: Taraba Govt Breaks Silence on Giving Automatic Ticket for Political Aspirants

The Taraba State Government has dismissed claims that Governor Agbu Kefas has approved automatic tickets for some political aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections.
Politics Nigeria reports that the government spoke on Friday through a statement issued in Jalingo by the Special Adviser on Political Matters and Special Duties, Josiah Sabo Kente.
The statement described the reports as “false, baseless, and misleading,” stressing that no such arrangement exists.
According to the government, the governor has not made any form of promise or commitment to any aspirant or political group regarding automatic tickets. It insisted that the rumour does not reflect the position of the administration.
The statement further explained that Governor Kefas remains committed to democratic values and due process. It noted that fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity will guide political activities within the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state.
“At no time has His Excellency made any promise of automatic tickets to any individual or group,” the statement read, while reaffirming that all aspirants would be given a level playing ground.
Kente added that the clarification aligns with the position of the party leadership in the state. He pointed to remarks by the Taraba APC Chairman, Abubakar Bawa, who maintained that the party does not operate any system of automatic tickets.
Bawa was said to have reiterated that candidates for elective positions would emerge strictly through credible and transparent primaries, in line with party guidelines.
The government also raised concerns over the impact of the rumour. It said the claims have generated avoidable tension among aspirants, party members, and supporters across the state.
It warned against the spread of unverified information, noting that such reports could create division and weaken party unity ahead of the elections.
