Lawyers representing Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and justices of the Court of Appeal are currently at odds over the contradictory certified true copy (CTC) of the judgment that sacked him from office.
This development follows a fresh notice of appeal filed by Governor Yusuf’s lawyers before the Court of Appeal in Abuja. They seek to uphold only the portion of the judgment favouring them and overturn the parts that do not.
However, the Court of Appeal staff refused to accept service of the processes at the court. This forced the legal team of the Kano Governor to proceed to the Kano Division of the court, where they were accepted with revenue collector’s receipt number: 13164334.
POLITICS NIGERIA has gathered that Court of Appeal officials have sent letters to all parties involved in the case, requesting the return of the CTCs for correction. However, the governor’s lawyers have reportedly declined to accept service of these letters.
Recall that the court on Friday sacked Governor Abba Yusuf from office due to alleged non-qualification, specifically not being a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
However, in the CTC made public, the appellate court upheld the issues raised by Governor Yusuf, set aside the tribunal’s judgment, and awarded him N1 million in costs against Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
