Akeredolu replies PDP over alleged embezzlement of COVID-19 funds

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has replied the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over alleged embezzlement of COVID-19 funds.

Recall that the PDP had alleged that Akeredolu mismanaged over N700 million intervention fund donated to the state by corporate organisations and individuals meant to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

According to the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan, Governor Akeredolu has been “condoning corruption and wicked embezzlement of public funds”.

Responding to the allegation made by the PDP on Monday through his verified twitter handle, the governor urged the opposition party to stop its propaganda tactics and play issue-based politics.

Akeredolu denied embezzling any fund meant to curb the spread of the dreaded virus, urging the PDP to get their facts right before accusing him of wrongdoing.

The governor noted that had sent the bank statement of the COVID-19 response funds to an Abuja-based Social Accountability Organisation, Follow The Money International.

He, however, urged PDP to consult the organisation for a copy of the statement, which he said was made available in line with the Freedom of Information Act, FOI.

Akeredolu also said his administration is rated four out of the 36 states of the federation by the World Bank’s Fiscal Transparency and Sustainability Index, noting his administration has nothing to hide.

He wrote: “Reach out to @4lowthemoney. We already gave them the entire bank statement.

“We are not 4th in the World Bank’s Fiscal Transparency and Sustainability Index for nothing. We have nothing to hide.”
