Akpabio’s Senate Presidency: Jubilation in Niger Delta, South East

Ahead of the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, residents of the Niger Delta region have expressed their desires to see former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabi, clinch the Senate presidency seat.

Also, the people of South East and the northern part of the country have equally expressed their optimism with an Akpabio Senate presidency.

Akpabio, popularly called the uncommon transformer and akpabioism, has reportedly been endorsed by majority of the senators across party lines.

These lawmakers see him as the man the cap fits.

Politics Nigeria reports that the president of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is backing him while the leadership of the APC has also declared support for the former governor.

The Niger delta leaders, youth groups, see Akpabio has a man who will work with the president to change the fortune of the region.

Also, the south east people have confidence in the man they have come to know as one of them, an in-law to the Igbos who in the past treated them well.

Speaking on the prospect of Akpabio’s Senate presidency, Ahlaji Usman Aliyu, a northern leader and coordinator of north south progressive group, insisted that Akpabio is a bridge builder and a friend of the north.

According to him, as governor, Akpabio sponsored many Moslems to Saudi Arabia for hajj.

The Niger delta people are with Akpabio.

Meanwhile, Mr Akpan Bassey and Dr Patrick Fred in a joint statement issued in Uyo, declared that Akpabio remains the best for the job.

They assured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the entire region are with him.

On his part, elder Uche Idechukwuka said the Igbos are fully in support of senator Akpabio as Senate president.
