Another mining pit collapse In Niger state, kills 3, many others injured

Barely two weeks after a mining site collapsed at Galadima Kogo in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger, trapping 14 persons, another pit has collapsed at Bazakwoi of Adnun community in Paikoro Local Government Area of the State.

The latest incident has claimed the lives of 3 persons and one injured, with nobody trapped.

The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, Abdullahi Baba-Arah, who confirmed the incident, said it occurred in the early hours of Thursday, June 13.

According to him, the incident involved local miners said to be illegally mining the gold deposit environment and scavenging for the mineral.

Baba-Arah further added that three persons were confirmed dead while one person was rescued alive with injuries.

The NSEMA boss therefore said that with no one trapped, there was no search and rescue operation.
