Atiku’s loyalists move to expel Wike as PDP crisis deepens

Attempts to expel Nyesom Wike from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by loyalists of former vice president Atiku Abubakar seem to be gaining more momentum.

This was gathered after Atiku hosted a recent meeting attended by “elders and stakeholders” who discussed the “Wike problem”.

Iyorchia Ayu, the former national chairman, also attended the meeting.

During the secret meeting, most attendees supported the call for the former Rivers governor’s expulsion from the PDP, although some feared that it may further divide the opposition party.

However, this move coincides with the resolve of Wike’s loyalists to fight to the last if he is expelled.

An NWC member who spoke on the condition of anonymity noted that the “elders and stakeholders” that met with Atiku do not hold any official position in the PDP and thus lack the constitutional power to suspend Wike.

On his part, a former governor who is loyal to Atiku claimed that most NWC members “have sold their souls to Wike” and are no longer trusted to do what is right for the party.
