The officer in charge of the Divisional Police Headquarters in Jibia, DSP Abdullahi Rano, was shot and killed early Wednesday morning by terrorists known locally as bandits.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the bandits invaded Magama-Jibia border town in Katsina state.
The DPO was said to have led a reinforcement of the police and the Nigerian Army to engage the terrorists in a fierce shoot-out during which he was shot and killed.
Although the casualty on the part of the gunmen could not be ascertained, residents said a soldier was also killed and another injured.
Police and military authorities in the state have yet to comment on the incident. The Police Public Relations Officer in Katsina, Gambo Isah, could not be immediately reached.
