BREAKING: Edo State APC Guber Candidate, Okpebholo, Signs Peace Agreement [PHOTOS]

Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the upcoming Edo Governorship election, has signed a Peace Accord, despite his party’s initial refusal to do so.

The APC had earlier announced its decision not to sign the peace accord, citing the unsolved murder of a police inspector, Onuh Akor, who was attached to Okpebholo’s campaign team. The party accused the state government of shielding the perpetrators and failing to bring them to justice.

However, Okpebholo has now gone ahead to sign the peace agreement, which aims to promote a peaceful and harmonious electoral process among contending political parties ahead of the September 21 governorship election.

The move comes after Governor Godwin Obaseki’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had also threatened not to sign the accord, citing a lack of trust in the police and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Seventeen of the 18 political parties contesting the September 21 Edo governorship election have signed a peace accord. The PDP has refused to sign the accord.
