BREAKING: IGP redeploys Bayelsa state commissioner after massive protests by residents

The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Tolani Alausa, has been removed from his position by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Alausa’s removal follows protests by youths and women in the state, who demanded his deployment due to alleged bias in the lead-up to the recent governorship election.

Alausa faced accusations of partiality and reportedly ordered the use of tear gas on protesting women before the election.

His redeployment was announced in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Asinim Butswat.

The statement also informed the public that Alonyenu Francis Idu has taken over as the 37th Commissioner of Police for Bayelsa State, assuming duties in place of Alausa, who has been reassigned to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

According to the statement, CP Idu, originally from Benue State, joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.

“He is a seasoned Police Officer with vast experience in Operations, such as Police Mobile Force, insurgency and Banditry operations, investigation in counter-terrorism, Fraud and other money laundering-related crimes.

“The CP solicits for the Cooperation of the good people of Bayelsa state. He also reassures that the Police Command, under his watch, will ensure the protection of lives and property, guarantee public safety and sustain social harmony,” the statement added.
