BREAKING: Indonesia apologizes to Nigeria over assault on Diplomat

Nigeria’s foreign ministry has revealed that the Indonesian government has apologised over an assault on a Nigerian Diplomatic Officer by Immigration officials on Saturday, August 7th.

The incident was described as ‘unfortunate’, adding that Indonesian immigration officials have apologised to the victim.

“The unfortunate incident is against international law and the Vienna Conventions governing Diplomatic and Consular Relations between states,” the ministry said. “The Nigerian Government has complained strongly to the Government of Indonesia and the Ambassador of Indonesia to Nigeria was summoned by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs.”

“The Ambassador explained what he understood happened and apologised unreservedly on behalf of the Government of Indonesia. The Nigerian Government has sent an official protest to the Government of Indonesia,” it added.

The ministry further said “The Ambassador of Nigeria to Indonesia has confirmed that the immigration official involved had since come to the Nigerian Embassy to apologise to the Ambassador and the diplomat concerned.”

  1. Is it about apology, what if that man is not a diplomat? Should anybody under any guise be treated in such an inhumane manner?

Apologies do not heal wounds. Moreover, this is not the first time such abuses are reported from that country of their treatment of Nigerians, (I cannot generalise for the other black countries or foreigners). Indonesia is not as developed as the US, but even they do not treat people with such horrifying abuses! This must stop!

  2. Until we show respect for our sovereign laws that govern our nation, we are likely to be disrespected anywhere in the world, we all need a rebirth as Nigerians to respected elsewhere around the world.
