BREAKING: INEC speaks on investigating Tinubu over Drug Dealing, Money Laundering

The Independent and National Electoral Commission, INEC, has denied reports that its currently investigating the Presidential Candidate of the All progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his indictment for drug-dealing and Money Laundering in the United States of America in 1993.

In a statement sent to POLITICS NIGERIA on Saturday evening signed by the commission’s National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, the electoral umpire called on the general public to ignore a press release alleging that Tinubu was being investigated.

“A Press Release purported to have been issued by the Commission has been trending online since yesterday Friday 11th November 2022. It claims that the Commission has commenced investigation into a case of criminal forfeiture against one of the Presidential candidates in the forthcoming General Election and is liaising with a Court in the United States of America in pursuit of same to determine possible violation of our guidelines or the Electoral Act 2022.”

“We wish to state categorically that the said Press Release did not emanate from the Commission nor is it pursuing the purported course of action. It is the handiwork of mischief makers and utterly fake.”

“Press Releases from the Commission are uploaded to the INEC Press Corps platform and simultaneously disseminated through our website and official social media handles.”

  1. No smoke without fire the rumour is letting you know the mind of the public as to what is expected of INEC with this information! A word is enough for the wise.
Whose job is it to act or is it ok to ignore the release?

  2. We know that inec can do nothing about Tinubu’s drug case as it will be influenced by apc government the it is influencing the judiciary and agf. One thing that cannot be influenced is the footprints they left on the ground.

    1. Obidients!!! can you proof your evidence? Mischief people always against progress. Nothing you and your cohorts can do to stop J-A-G-A-B-A-N comes 2023… enemies of progress

    2. I quite agree with you, they can not influence the footprint on the ground. APC is a corrupt government, starting from head head to the appointees. If Tinubu has conscience, he should step down, he has lots to answer. He is part of this government what magic is he going to do. How can a normal person say that “IT IS MY TURN”.

    3. Let’s us not sentimental pls, dis government are really trying base on judicially, becus many occasions FG have lost many cases aginst individuals, am in support of dis government at all, am obidient

    4. I don’t think INEC for now can do anything. The onus lies on anyone who feels he or she has a good case against Ahmed Bola Tinubu especially as regards the case in question, should proceed to court.

    5. No one is above the laws if the law failed during this Administration the next administration will surely take it up, the issue is about Nigeria and the image of Nigerians.

  3. Should we ignore it because you not or because it’s wrong to investigate such a matter? If Abba kyri who is a police officer was arrested for involment in drug and fraudulent activity, why shouldn’t a person vying for no.1 seat be asked to defend himself on a national TV.

    1. Is it the function of inec to investigate such. Anyone or organization that has problem with Tinubu should approach coyrt if the land with evidence.

  4. Is it the function of inec to investigate such? Anyone or organization that has problems with Tinubu should approach the court of the land with evidence.

  5. INEC, PLEASE DON’T WASTE PEOPLE ‘S TIME AND TAX PAYERS MONEY. YOU CANNOT DO ANYTHING YOU . WHEN IT WAS OBVIOUS BUHARI DIDN’T HAVE CERTIFICATE WHAT WERE YOU ABLE TO DO ? JUST LET IT BE ON GOOD RECORD THAT ONE OF OUR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE IS A DRUG LORD.

  6. INEC APPEARS TOO INTIMIDATED TO DO THE RIGHT THING! SHOULD IT HAVE BRUSHED THIS SERIOUS MATTER UNDER THE CARPET? IT IS ALWAYS BUSINESS AS USUAL IN NIGERIA! THE HIGH AND MIGHTY GET AWAY EASILY WITH THEIR CRIMES! IN THE USA, A NARCOTICS INDICTMENT IS A PERMANENT DENT! YOU CANT SEEK PUBLIC OFFICE WITH THIS IMAGE DENT!
WHY IS OURS DIFFERENT WHEN WE ARE OPERATING THE SAME SYSTEM?

  7. Am not in any way supporting Tinubu. It’s not the duty of Inec to investigate Tinubu because they’re not security agency in the country. If inec would disqualify Tinubu, the people that are alleging this should take the matter to the appropriate body which the court and with a clear evidence to show that he was one time involved in drug dealing. And if court pronounces him guilty then court and inec will then disqualify him. Tnks

  8. The nigerian INEC should investigate toroly about TINUBU JAGABAN on drug dealing, because nigeria need a clean leader like ATIKU and OBI, Thank you.

  9. The time INEC start investigating such high sensitive allegations we may know that nigeria is serious . Why ignore such heavy allegation? In a rotten decayed and backward country this can be ignored. Most important is that we are talking of the office is the president. Who Bewitched Nigeria? The truth is is that any and every attempt to sweep this under the carpet means Nigeria is a huge joke.

  10. I’m so disappointed that I’m a Nigerian living under this rot by our leaders.Very disappointed “INEC”, What is the Codes of Conduct about and for if information on drugs and money laundering could be ignored?

  11. One thing is obvious and certain that i do not take this investigation as going to be a serious task to be handled by the inec.

We are in Nigeria where the people who claim to be fighting corruption are indulging into all kinds of atrocious and corruptive measure and been influence and controlled by what we call “MONEY” if this has been a case off-the-shore of Nigeria or diaspora , I would rather take it as a sacrosanct investigation that will yield good and appropriate sanction befitted to the said offence or crime.

Not only that , hence the hitherto government is APC, what do you think we happened? Definitely is going to be an influential matter.

  12. Igbos! Your hatred for Tinubu will eventually add to your albatross in Nigeria and beyond. Your desperate moves to get Tinubu disqualified on dead issues can NEVER guarantee the Presidency for your candidate. Sell your candidate and stop trying to bring other contenders down! Even God and nature do not backup people who do that. A word is enough for the wise, though we know your tribe no dey hear word until you hear wen! Good luck!

  13. This is Nigeria for you, a presidential candidate who does not provide a single certificate and he was nominated, what do you think that so called inec that spoiled election in Nigeria can do to him?

  14. Why won’t inec investigate Timubu on these issues? Is inec so scared to do that? What if the allegations are true and we end up voting him into power, does inec realize what that will do to the already battered reputation of Nigeria? Remember that Buhari as a military head of state, staked and shot alleged drug dealers. If he do abhors drug dealing, why can’t he act on this one? I wonder why we cannot do things conscientiously in Nigeria ! Mmmttcchhmm!!!

  15. In Nigeria, the problem starts when you commit low and mid level crime. Nigerian government naturally looks away when a colossal crime is committed or negotiates with the criminal. From South through the middle belt to the north,it’s the pattern. In Nigeria smaller crimes kill faster than humongous ones. The politicians already know this!

  16. INEC has no power to investigate any body in Nigeria. The powers to investigate and prosecute are vested in the Nigeria Police. Therefore, I wonder where such news came from in the first instance. We can not arrogant to INEC powers it does not have under the law.

  17. @Mickykarim u called this fake news and shenanigans? Can u seear it’s fake? All those who said it’s fale let them not see tomorrow
