Ondo SSG, Abegunde resigns

Ahead of the governorship election in Ondo State, the Secretary to the state government, Sunday Ifedayo Abegunde, has resigned his appointment.

It was learned that Abegunde, popularly known as Abena, tendered his resignation letter on Monday morning and takes effect immediately.

His resignation letter reads: ”I, Hon. Ifedayo Sunday Abegunde, the Secretary to the State Government of Ondo State, hereby tender my letter of resignation.

”I want to thank Mr. Governor for giving me the opportunity to serve the Government and people of Ondo State.

”Again, my family and I wish Mr. Governor quick recovery.”

According to the letter, Abegunde was silent on why he chose to quit the administration of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who is undergoing COVID-19 treatment.

Abegunde is also reportedly set to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) and defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The politician, who is a close friend to the defected deputy governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi, said he would communicate his next line of action within the next 24 hours.

Recall that in a statement on June 22, Abegunde had denied resigning from his position and dumping the ruling APC for the PPD.

He had described the rumour of his defection as false, baseless. He maintained that he was still a card-carrying member of the APC.

Abegunde who said he would have kept quiet over the rumour, however, said it became necessary in order not destabilise the party at this particular period.

The SSG vowed to continue to throw his weight behind the party and will therefore not join hands to destroy or abandon the ship he joined hands to build.
