BREAKING: Popular Nigerian monarch dies in his sleep [PICS]

The Emir of Funakaye in Gombe State, Mu’azu Muhammad-Kwairanga, has died.

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the traditional ruler died in his sleep on Sunday morning. He was 45.

Muhammad-Kwairanga was installed as the Emir of Funakaye Local Government Area (LGA) by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya in May 2021, following the demise of the previous traditional ruler.

Before his sudden death, the late Monarch had attended the flag-off of the distribution of assorted foods sent to the State by President Muhammadu Buhari for the vulnerables, held at the Custodian Hotel in Gombe on Saturday, where he was nominated as a member of the distribution committee. He also attended an event on Friday.

Reacting to the sudden death of the Emir, Governor Yahaya described his exit as a monumental loss to the state and Nigeria.

The Governor in a statement issued by his senior media aide, Ismaila Uba Misilli, stated that the State has indeed lost one of its finest traditional rulers: “who worked relentlessly with other royal fathers in the state and offered counsels and fatherly guidance for the peace, unity, growth, and development of the state in particular and Nigeria as a whole”.

“He described the late Emir as a humble, decent, and down-to-earth monarch who cared more for his subjects as well as the unity and progress of the state, describing his 16 months of reign as remarkably eventful,” Misilli said.
