BREAKING: Supreme Court Sets Date to Deliver Judgment on Kano Gubernatorial Election

The Supreme Court has set Friday, January 12th, as the date for judgment in the appeals surrounding the Kano state governorship election.

This was confirmed by the secretary of the legal team for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Barrister Bashir Tudun Wuzirci, on Wednesday.

“Yes, it is officially confirmed. They have told us to appear on Friday for the judgment. “They told us that each party should not have more than two counsels in attendance.

“This, they said is because they will be delivering seven judgments on that same Friday,” he said.

The legal disputes stem from the controversial sacking of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf by the Election Petition Tribunal in September 2023. The tribunal had ruled in favour of Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, citing irregularities in the March 2023 election.

Governor Yusuf, unwilling to accept the tribunal’s verdict, appealed to the Court of Appeal. However, the appellate court upheld the decision, further declaring that Yusuf was not a registered member of the NNPP at the time of the election, rendering his candidacy invalid.
