BREAKING: WAEC Withholds Results of Candidates from 8 States over Debt

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has withheld the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results of eight states that owe the council for various services rendered.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the council’s Head of National Office, Patrick Areghan, made the announcement at a press briefing in Yaba, Lagos, on Monday.

He said that the states had not paid their debts despite repeated reminders.

About eight states are owing WAEC,” Areghan said.

We won’t mention them all as some are going to pay. However, Zamfara and Niger states are the highest debtors. Again, Zamfara did not present any candidate for this year’s WASSCE.”

The body, while releasing the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, said a total of 1,613,733 candidates sat for the examination, out of which 1,361,608 candidates, representing 84.38%, obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects with or without English Language or Mathematics.

Also, 1,287,920 candidates, representing 79.81% of the total candidates, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

However, the results of 262,803 candidates have been withheld “due to reports of cases of examination malpractice.”

Areghan said candidates who sat for the 2023 WASSCE and have no pending issues can assess their results, including their certificates.
