The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has issued a statement on the arrest of Doyin Okupe in Lagos on Thursday.
Okupe, a former DG of the Peter Obi/Datti campaign, was picked up at Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos by DSS operatives and handed over to the anti-graft commission.
Below is a statement sent to POLITICS NIGERIA, signed by the commission’s spokesman, Wilson Uwajaren;
“The Department of State Services, DSS, today, January 12, informed the Commission of the interception of Dr. Doyin Okupe, former presidential adviser, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.”
“The Service acted on a Watch-list request issued on July 18, 2016, over six years before his recent conviction on money laundering charges by the Federal High Court, Abuja.”
“The Commission was in the process of formally lifting the watch-list before his interception and will expedite action in this regard.”
What a flimsy excuse! Where were they when Dr.Okupe paid millions of naira in restitution. Main while there are hundreds of high level political criminals walking about freely.
All these are act of laxity and indiscipline on the side of Nigeria public officials.
