CJN to New Judges: Judiciary Under My Watch’ll Not Condone Corruption

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has warned judges against all forms of corruption.

The CJN said judiciary under his watch would not condone corruption in any form.

He added that the bench is not a place to make money, but a call to serve the nation and humanity.

In his words: “I have directed the National Judicial Institute to avail you copies of the Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers and also the ‘Guidelines on Performance Evaluation’ which will serve as your guide on the bench,” Ariwoola said”.

The CJN gave the warning on Monday while delivering a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Induction Course for newly appointed judicial officers held at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja.

The induction course for newly appointed judicial officers is an annual event designed to equip newly appointed judicial officers with the requisite knowledge and skills needed to discharge their duties effectively.

At the event, CJN urged the judges to keep abreast with applicable laws that support the use and reliance on evidence sourced through the new technology, the Internet of things (IOT).

He added: “You must not allow counsels to determine the speed of their cases before you, it might slow down the speedy dispensation of Justice and caused miscarriage of justice.”

Also giving an address, the administrator, National Judicial Institute (NJI) Justice Salisu Garba Abdulahi, charged the judges to justify their new appointment into the bench.
