JUST IN: Kano State Governor Yusuf Establishes Council of Elders, Includes Ganduje, Others

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuff has established the Kano Elders Council, an advisory body tasked with providing guidance on matters of governance.

The announcement, made on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, comes amid Yusuff’s recent confirmation as governor by the Supreme Court.

The council will draw from a rich pool of expertise, which includes former governors, deputy governors, senate presidents, and other high-ranking officials from across the state’s political and judicial landscapes.

Dawakin Tofa noted that the state has been blessed with numerous elders and former leaders who have achieved the pinnacle of their careers and continue to be active and healthy.

Among the notable figures included in the council is former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who currently serves as the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The council will also encompass retired Supreme Court and Appeal Court justices, as well as former Chief Justices of the state, Secretaries to the State Government, and Heads of State Civil Service, all of whom are Kano State indigenes.

Furthermore, the council will have the leadership of the Ulamas (religious scholars), the business community, traditional rulers, and former heads of security agencies from Kano State. The government will identify and appoint additional distinguished elders to round out the council, the statement added.
