Coup: Tinubu writes Senate, demands military intervention in Niger Republic

... says all sea and air routes must be blocked

President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate on Friday seeking support for Nigeria’s military intervention in Niger Republic.

The letter was read at plenary by the Senate president, Godswill Akpabio.

The president also demanded a total blockade of the sea and air routes to the country following the military coup.

Politics Nigeria recalls the military overthrew the democratically elected government in Niger Republic a few weeks ago.

It also seized assets of all politically exposed and senior persons of the government of Niger in the country based on the ECOWAS resolution.

President Tinubu had also sent a high-powered delegation to the country to meet with the coup leaders on Thursday.

The delegation led by General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) only met with representatives of the junta.

Subsequently, Niger severed ties with Nigeria, Togo, France, its coloniser, and the United States.
