COVID-19: Bauchi Governor in isolation after contact with Atiku’s son


Ladan Salihu, the Chief of staff to Bauchi state Governor, Bala Mohammed, has disclosed that the Governor is currently in isolation after contact with Atiku Abubakar’s son.

On Sunday evening, Mr. Atiku announced that his son has been tested positive to the coronavirus infection.

POLITICS NIGERIA reported that the patient, which is among Nigeria’s 36 cases of the pandemic, is at the Gwagwalada Specialist Teaching Hospital in Abuja, for treatment.

Although there are speculations that one of Atiku’s sons attended the PDP rally held last week, and one was in an Abuja club last weekend, the specific identity has been withheld by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Meanwhile, the Bauchi Governor’s Chief of Staff has said that Mr Mohammed has gone into Isolation after he shook hands with Mr Atiku’s son.

He noted that they were on the same flight from Lagos to Abuja and that the Governor alongside his team members, has taken tests. The results of the tests yet to be released.

“Our Governor Bala Mohammed in self-isolation following contact with Atiku Abubakar’s Son.”

“Yes. We were on the same flight from Lagos to Abuja. They shook hands and exchanged pleasantries. The Gov and the rest of us have taken tests. The results will be negative in sha Allah, “Ladan Salihu posted on his Twitter account.

The pandemic, so far, has led to the death of over 14,000 people globally. On Monday, Nigeria recorded its first death from the infection.

The number of confirmed cases have climbed to 36 which cut across Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Meanwhile, here is a full statement from the Bauchi State Government;

“This is to inform the general public that His Excellency, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed con the Executive Governor of Bauchi State has gone into self-isolation.”

“This development is sequel to the report from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) that the son of the Former Vice President of Nigeria Mohammed. Atiku Abubakar was tested positive to the Coronavirus upon his return from an international trip through Lagos.”

“It would be recalled that Governor Bala Mohammed who also recently returned from an official Trip in Lagos, met with Mohammed Atiku Abubakar in the Aero Contractors aircraft where they shook hands and exchanged pleasantries.”

“So far, the Governor did not exhibited any symptom of the disease but based on the recommendation of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, he will remain in Isolation in order to avoid the risk of spread of the disease.”

“Currently, the blood sample of the Governor has been taken and is undergoing Clinical test. For the period of the clinical testing, the Governor and his entourage will remain in isolation pending the outcome of the clinical result.”
