Information reaching POLITICS NIGERIA reveals that President Muhammadu Buhari will meet with the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 today (Friday) over the restriction of movement in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states.
As Nigeria records more cases of Coronavirus, it was learned that the Nigerian leader will discuss with the task force the possibility of extending the two-week lockdown in the two states and the nation’s capital.
This news medium also understands that the lockdown might be extended to all parts of the country to enable health officials conduct more tests and contact trace people who had been infected with the virus.
Recall that President Buhari had in a nationwide broadcast on March 29, ordered the restriction of movement in Lagos, FCT and Ogun states for two weeks beginning from 11pm on March 30.
Speaking further, Buhari said the lockdown is to curb the spread of the pandemic in the affected areas and to other parts of the country.
He also noted that the restriction of movement is to enable the government to trace and treat those who have contracted the virus.
More than a week that the lockdown began in Lagos State and the FCT, COVID-19 cases in the country has jumped from 111 to 288, with the virus spreading to 16 states.
POLITICS NIGERIA had reported that the Lagos State government has dismissed rumors that it has relaxed the COVID-19 lockdown in the state ahead of the Easter celebration.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, gave the dismissal while addressing journalists during the inter-ministerial media briefing on Thursday.
He said that the restriction of persons and vehicular movement is still in place in the state, adding that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has not relaxed any lockdown.
Omotoso noted that President Muhammadu Buhari is the only person can call off the lockdown because he was the one who ordered the lockdown in the first place.
