COVID-19: Nigeria Will Have More Confirmed Cases – NCDC Boss

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said the country will experience more confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Director-General of the NCDC, Chikwe Ihekweazu, said this on Channels Television programme, Sunrise Daily, on Monday.

Ihekweazu said that the increase in the number of tests carried out will lead to an increase in the number of confirmed cases. However, it said it will try to manage it.

He also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the lockdown order, adding that it will help in the tracing of contacts of positive patients.

“Most of our cases so far have been mild, we have been fairly lucky not to have too many severe cases.

“Yes, we have crossed the hundred mark and the reality is that there is a virus circulating in our midst and that’s why Mr President came up yesterday to speak to Nigerians.

“In the short term, we do expect the numbers to keep rising but we also expect that we would be able to get on top of this and that’s why some extra measures were needed.”

He added that the tests conducted have increased by 32%, also saying that Nigeria has been dealing mostly with mild cases.

The NCDC announced that Nigeria now has 111 cases of the pandemic, crossing the hundred mark.
