Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye has reacted to an FCT High Court judgement on Tuesday quashing his prosecution by the offices of the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation.
POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that Melaye was being prosecuted on six counts bordering on attempted suicide, attempt to escape from custody and damage of police property.
The former lawmaker was said to have committed the offence on April 24, 2018, while being conveyed by the police to Lokoja, Kogi State. The police alleged that Melaye sat on the ground, holding a substance in one hand, threatening to drink it in order to kill himself and implicate policemen.
He was further alleged to have broken the windshield of the vehicle in which he was being conveyed to Lokoja with his elbow and caused damage to police property.
However, in a judgement on Tuesday, Justice Yusuf Halilu struck out the case filed by the IGP and the Minister of Justice for lack of merit. The judge, thereafter, discharged and acquitted the former lawmaker.
Speaking on his victory, Melaye thanked God for granting him victory and appreciated the court for dispensing justice.
“You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you FREE” To God be the Glory..the case between Inspector General of Police and Senator Dino MELAYE prosecuted by The Attorney General of the Federation before Justice Halilu of FCT High Court stroke out and Dino MELAYE discharged,” he tweeted.
