“Discussion is Still in Progress” – LP Guber Candidate Opens Up on Meeting Rivers Gov, Fubara

The Labour Party’s 2023 Governorship candidate in Rivers State, Beatrice Itubo, has said she met with Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While confirming the meeting, Itubo remained tight-lipped about its purpose, stating that “discussion is still in progress.”

She also refused to comment on whether she intends to switch to the ruling party in the state or simply offer support to the Fubara administration.

“I will only give details when we conclude our deliberations,” she said.

The meeting comes amidst heightened political tension in the state. Recall that on Monday, 27 members of the State House of Assembly defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors, reportedly loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike, said their defection is due to dissatisfaction with internal division within the PDP, particularly the dispute surrounding the position of National Secretary.

However, there is widespread belief among residents that the move is more deeply rooted in the ongoing power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
