Edo election: Don’t destabilise our democracy, PDP governor warns INEC

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, who serves as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council in the forthcoming Edo state governorship election, has issued a strong warning to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), urging the body to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s democracy.

He made the remarks during a speech in Benin City, the Edo State capital, as the PDP concluded its campaign ahead of the election set for Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Governor Fintiri emphasized the importance of a transparent and credible electoral process in Edo, stressing that any attempts to manipulate the election or undermine democracy would not be tolerated by the PDP.

“INEC must ensure a credible electoral process in Edo. Any attempt to destabilize Nigeria’s democracy will be resisted. The PDP will not accept anything less and will not be intimidated,” Fintiri stated.

The governor further reassured the people of Edo that the PDP is committed to a fair and transparent election.

“Edo is the cradle of civilization and intellectualism, and the right thing must be done. We are confident that the people will choose wisely, and we expect nothing short of a transparent electoral process,” he added.

Fintiri’s comments come at a crucial time as the nation closely watches the Edo election, amid concerns over possible electoral malpractice.

The PDP had earlier raised an alarm that the presidency is planning to use government institutions to rig the forthcoming election.
