EFCC begins probe of suspended UNILAG VC, Ogundipe, others

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has begun the probe of Professor Oluwatosin Ogundipe, the suspended Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, over alleged misappropriation and fraud.

The anti-graft agency made this known in a letter dated November 2nd and sent to the Acting VC of the institution, Prof Folashade Ogunshola.

According to the letter, the EFCC also asked Prof Ogunshola to release the Registrar of the University for questioning. The EFCC asked the Registrar to come along with the certified true copies of the following information/documents to enable the agency to conclude the investigation.

EFCC disclosed that it had already commenced an investigation into the activities of the suspended VC and his management team in the alleged fraud. Recall that Ogundipe was removed as vice-chancellor of the institution in August after an emergency meeting of the Governing Council and Senate members in Abuja.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that a retired UNILAG lecturer, Professor Boniface Oye-Adeniran, had petitioned the anti-graft agency alleging that Ogundipe and his team awarded contracts amounting to N5bn without the approval of the governing council of the institution.

Professor Oye-Adeniran added that Ogundipe awarded contracts beyond his N2.5m approval limit and breached the Public Procurement Act (PPA) between 2017 and 2020.
