Eid-El-Kabir: Thousands Throng Kashamu’s Home for Sallah Gifts

As Muslim faithful celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir, people in their thousands have thronged the Ijebu Igbo, Ogun state country home of the Kashamus to receive the Salah gifts.

Men, women, and children all gathered in huge numbers and were welcomed by the Minority Whip of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Honourable Abdulrasheed Kashamu, who played the host.

As early as 6am, large crowd could be seen at the entrance of the home of the Kashamus.

The 26-year-old Honourable Kashamu, who represents Ijebu North Constituency 1 at the State House of Assembly, ordered that the gates be thrown open and a massive crowd gathered, waiting to receive their Sallah gifts – a yearly tradition that his father, the late Senator Buruji Kashamu practised in his lifetime.

Since the death of Senator Kashamu in 2020, the younger Kashamu has continued with the tradition.

He shared food items like rice, noodles and meat; and also gave out cash to the crowd of mostly women, youths and the elderly.

He also hosted them to a Sallah party where they were treated to an evening of sumptuous meals, assorted drinks and good music.

In an earlier statement, Honourable Abdulrasheed said: “This year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration is special for me as it comes one week after my inauguration as a lawmaker in our dear state.

“I enjoin our beloved people of Ijebu North Constituency 1 to celebrate with modesty, be law-abiding and above all, show commitment, empathy and sacrifice, which this sacred season exemplifies.”
