Election: “We’ve seen very divisive rhetoric in Lagos” – Sanwo-Olu fumes

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Monday expressed his disappointment with the “very divisive rhetoric” witnessed in the 2023 election.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports Sanwo-Olu was reacting to his electoral victory in the state governorship election held over the weekend.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the early hours of Monday declared him the winner of the election.

Speaking shortly after the declaration, Governor Sanwo-Olu called for unity.

“During this campaign, unfortunately, we have seen very divisive rhetoric which is not a definition of who we are.

“So, Lagosians, we need to come together and further rebuild the capacity, the competence, and the experience that we have in this city.

“Religion should not divide us, ethnicity will not divide us. Lagos will come out bigger, stronger, and better,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Meanwhile, second-placed Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the candidate of the Labour Party, has rejected the outcome of the March 18 election, saying he would not call Governor Sanwo-Olu to congratulate him.
