Enugu Govt Threatens to Sanction Traders Who Obey IPOB’s Sit-at-Home Order

The Enugu State Government has again called on residents to ignore Monday’s sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

It would be recall that IPOB had directed the residents to the state to observe a sit-at-home order every Monday to press their demand for the release of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Also, Politics Nigeria had earlier reported that the self-acclaimed Biafra prime minister and freedom agitator, Simon Ekpa, recently issued two-week sit-at-home order in the south-east.

But the Enugu government urged residents to carry out their normal business activities, reiterating its earlier ban on sit-at-home.

The secretary to the state government, Prof. Chidi Onyia, reiterated that sit-at-home was illegal, adding that Governor Peter Mbah had said any business that refuse to open in the name of observing sit-at-home risked being permanently shut.

Onyia noted that civil servants, schools, markets, financial institutions, business premises, and others are directed to resume normal activities on Monday.

He added that the state government had restated its resolve to apply sanctions against defaulters of its cancellation of the illegal order.

“Markets that fail to open to customers on Monday shall be shut down indefinitely, and shops in the markets that close on Monday shall be sealed and re-allocated to those eager to do business in the state,” Onyia said.

“The government extends the same warning of sanctions against schools, financial institutions, shopping malls, department stores, business premises, and others that may defy its directive.”
