FG speaks on renewed call for Nnamdi Kanu’s release

The Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has said the renewed call for Nnamdi Kanu’s release has not been invoked officially for the consideration of the Federal Government.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that recently, Professor Charles Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, called on the FG to release Kanu, leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Soludo offered to stand as surety for Kanu who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021.

Asked by Premium Times in a recent interview what his advice to President Muhammadu Buhari would be, Malami said: “There is no such request formally before the federal government or the judicial process.

“As of today, I am not in receipt of any application arising from the public statement made by the governor of Anambra State (Chukwuma Soludo), either through the judicial process or extended to me as the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).

“When a matter is pending before the court, the right channel through which any request or perhaps concession can be presented for consideration is through the judicial process.

“The renewed call for Nnamdi Kanu’s release has not been invoked formally for the consideration of the Attorney-General.”
