CBN to Hold Crucial Meeting Without Emefiele for the First Time in 9yrs

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced that it will hold the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) Meeting next Monday and Tuesday.

This will be the first time of holding the meeting without the suspended CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, in nine years.

CBN made the disclosure on Monday, July 17, in a notice posted on its official website.

The meeting is scheduled to hold at the apex bank’s headquarters in Abuja.

It is expected to make significant decisions on Nigeria’s rising inflation of 22.79 percent, challenges in the foreign exchange market and other issues affecting the country’s economy.

Politics Nigeria reports that the MPC is the central bank’s highest policy-making organ.

During the last MPC meeting in May, the Bank increased the monetary policy rate to 18.5 percent from 18 percent in the previous month to mitigate rising inflation.

Emefiele was suspended as the Governor of CBN in June by President Bola Tinubu.
