Flooding: FCTA Declares Abuja Estate a Disaster Zone

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has declared Trademore Estate located in Lugbe as a disaster zone.

Politics Nigeria earlier reported that Trademore Estate was recently submerged in flood which affected 116 houses leading to the death of two with some persons missing.

Permanent secretary of the FCTA, Olusade Adesola, revealled that the FCTA is considering the relocation of residents in the area to prevent loss of life and property.

Adesola, who led senior FCTA officials and heads of security and paramilitary agencies domiciled in the FCT on an assessment tour of the affected area on Tuesday, expressed surprise that people had returned to some of the properties just two days after the flood.

He, however, assured that the Federal Capital Development Authority executive secretary, who chairs the Task force on Flood Mitigation in Federal Capital Territory, the Commissioner of Police and other officials of the FCTA Development Control, Abuja Environmental Protection Board would evolve solutions to the menace.
