Gov. Fayemi urges gubernatorial election candidates to resign from cabinet before December 18

Any member of the cabinet interested in contesting the 2022 governorship election is directed to resign on or before December 18, 2021, by the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi.

In a statement by his chief press secretary, Yinka Oyebode, the governor explained on Wednesday that the directives were necessary to avoid any form of distraction for the administration in implementing its programs and policies for the people.

“It became imperative in order to ensure cohesion and excellent service delivery – two major hallmarks of the administration – remain uncompromised,” the statement read in part.

“In compliance with directives of the Independent National Electoral Commission, the ruling All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has slated the governorship primaries for January, ahead of the June 2022 governorship election.”

The statement, titled, “Ekiti 2022: Fayemi gives Dec. 18 deadline to governorship aspirants to resign position,” is published due to some rumours that several members of the cabinet are doing stealth political moves in an attempt to become the next governor.

The candidate hopefuls are including the Secretary to the State Government, Biodun Oyebanji, who is said to be the governor’s preferred successor, the Chief of Staff, Biodun Omoleye, as well as Wale Fapohunda, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General.

The Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Bamidele Faparusi, and the Special Adviser on Federal matters, Makinde Araoye, are said to be the next in line, tailed by the Special Adviser/Director General, Office of Transformation, Strategy and Delivery, Professor Bolaji Aluko.
