High Court refuses to lift Abure’s suspension as Labour Party Nat’l Chairman

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has declined to lift an interim order that prevents Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Farouk Ibrahim, the National Secretary, and two others from acting as leaders of the party.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that instead, Justice Hamza Muazu has scheduled April 20th to hear all applications concerning the case, following an urgent request from the lawyers representing the national officers of the LP to expedite the proceedings.

Alex Ejesieme (SAN), the counsel for Mr. Abure, had requested the Court on Monday to lift the interim order and restore order, following the forceful takeover of the LP national secretariat by a rival faction. The senior lawyer highlighted the worsening of divisions in the party since the interim order, noting that four groups in the Imo State chapter of the LP had conducted parallel primaries.

Justice Muazu intervened by ordering all parties involved in the case to expedite the filing of their processes to facilitate a speedy hearing.
