JUST IN: 5 Injured as Fatal Accident Claims 19 Lives in Kwara State [PHOTO]

A road accident has claimed the lives of 19 people, with five others sustaining injuries, in Kanbi village, along the new Jebba road in Kwara state.

The crash, which occurred on Thursday night at approximately 8 pm, involved two vehicles: a blue Iveco trailer without registration and a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number LSD363YE.

According to Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the incident resulted from excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.

In a statement released on Friday, June 14, Ogungbemide revealed that preliminary investigations showed a total of 25 people were involved in the crash, including 13 male adults, five female adults, two female children, and five male children.

He said: “The injured victims have been rescued to Orisun Ayo hospital. One corpse was deposited at the morgue of the same hospital while the remaining 18 dead bodies were claimed by the families of the deceased.”
